Established in 2006, the Inland Empire Taxpayers Association (IETA) has become the largest and most active taxpayer advocacy organization operating primarily in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Each election cycle the IETA has raised and spent anywhere between $150,000 and $1.4 million in the cause of protecting the interests of taxpayers at the ballot box.
Originally created for the sole purpose of fighting against the passage of new local bond measures, in its early days the IETA quickly made a name for itself by successfully defeating a series of bond measures in the San Gorgonio Pass area of Riverside County totaling over $813 million. Through these efforts, the IETA directly prevented the creation of over $1.6 billion of new public debt (initial bond amounts plus interest).
Over the years the mission and the reach of the IETA have expanded significantly. Today, the IETA engages every election cycle through direct donations, non-monetary contributions and independent expenditures in support or opposition to a wide range of local ballot measures, statewide propositions and candidates for public office.
The Inland Empire Taxpayers Association is dedicated to researching ballot measures, candidates and public policy issues, educating the public on these matters and taking action to protect the interests of taxpayers throughout the Inland Southern California region.
The Inland Empire Taxpayers Association is organized as a state general purpose recipient committee (PAC) under the California Political Reform Act. As such, the IETA falls under Section 527 of the Internal Revenue Code. Per the requirements of the California Political Reform Act, the IETA regularly files financial reporting documents with the California Secretary of State. These documents are a matter of public record.
The Inland Empire Taxpayers Association is led by its President/Principal Officer, who is given guidance by an Advisory Board comprised of strategic partners and key donors. In addition, IETA’s original founder has remained engaged to provide PAC management services at the direction of the President/Principal Officer.
